How can I reset the password on a computer with windows XP?
Bought a lap top in a yard sale in good shape for 20.00 but it has a password and a fingerprint reader. I am unable to go past that. Should I just throw it away or is ther a way to erase it ?
Ronan: Quite simply. Go ahead and take it to Best Buy (Trust me, this is worth it) and pay them to wipe the computer. It's around $50, but a Windows XP laptop is worth around $800-$1,200. They will wipe EVERYTHING, including past data and it will be like brand new. I also suggest complaining to the people you bought it from and having them open it up once and then from there you can change everything.
elimark1: theres alot of ways to get past the pass word the quickest way is to start up in safe mode and login to the admin account
you usually press f8 or f2 to goto the bootup options or just press the power button a whole bunch of times
another way is to use a bootable cd you can get of the internet that deletes the password
you dont have to use the fingerprint reader
and if all else fails reformat
